Rape survivors and OB-GYNS shared impassioned testimony about sexual assault and trauma on Tuesday, while Republicans asked that they quiet down.

“It’s going to set a dangerous precedent for other drugs … what else is coming next? IUDs, birth control pills?” a local OB-GYN told Jezebel.

“Motherhood has always been this combination of pain and joy and love, and we don’t hear about the bad parts because nobody listens to women,” she told Jezebel.

Police are taking hours to arrive at the scene; rape kits are going untested; cases are indefinitely stalled.

Director Roxanne Benjamin spoke with Jezebel about the decision to make this particular movie amid a torrent of reproductive pressure in her own life.

We're seeing more scenes of people having to cross state lines for an abortion, running up against gestational limits, and other barriers mimicking the news.

“We can’t tell the patient to be dishonest, but what we can say is…’What you mean is, you’re already having a miscarriage, right?’”

Watching Call Jane, I imagined existing in a world in which the ending—where everyone celebrates the passing of Roe v. Wade—felt hopeful. Instead, it felt like watching people on the Titanic dancing and partying, and the movie ends just before they see the iceberg.
